Kitchen remodel on a tight budget-lets call it "being frugal"

When it came time for us to update the kitchen in our old home, I had a very tight budget. We didn't have it in the plans to replace the kitchen cabinets so I had to get creative.

One day while our 2 month old was napping, I decided I'd grab my trusty Valspar paint and give it a try. I mean it certainly wouldn't hurt and I knew I could always paint the cabinets all white and they would look better than that wood color (there I go again with that white paint). So I spent the next 2 days getting these cabinets painted. Being who I am, I didn't take the doors off, I just started painting (I wouldn't recommend that as I didn't stay as neat as I should have but I was on a personal deadline and needed to get these things done, all while the baby napped).
We had the light fixtures replaced and did pretty well getting them for a decent price (purchased at Lowes in the clearance section). I felt that between the light fixtures and the cabinets a big change had happened! Oh but wait, my dad who is a general contractor helped make these beautiful pine countertops happen and we threw up the bead board backsplash and BAM! Beautiful! The laminate floors made a big difference also, but we will save that post for another day. :)
