Our new kitchen!

I told you guys I would do a post soon on how to decorate above your cabinets. So I went to take this photo to show off my decor to help showcase what I like to do and then I looked at this photo and decided I would expand on that idea and share the whole kitchen!

I really do love this kitchen. The cabinet color isn't my normal go to white but it is an off white color with a brown trim. The granite countertops are beautiful and match the cabinets really well.

A little backstory on this home, we actually rent the home from my family. My dad built it a few years back and we moved in it right after he completed it. The home is on family land out in the country and we have about 13 acres. We are loving the "farm" life with our baby chicks and all now. I'm working on getting the approval for a few other animals and hope we will be able to get a few more critters in the near future.

Anyway, back to the kitchen. When I decorate above the cabinets I tend to just grab a few items and play with them a bit until I find the right "balance" (see there, why the name is so fitting ;) ). I like to add in some color where I can and I didn't want to purchase any new pieces if I could use what I had. While unpacking during this move I laid all of my decor pieces out on my kitchen table and just matched pieces as I went.

The little bird and elephant pieces added the color I wanted and the orchids framed the "grocery" sign pretty well. Orchids are my FAVORITE flower so I tend to grab them while shopping for accent pieces. The photo doesn't show the matching lantern well but the lantern in the corner is one of a set I have in each corner of the long wall. Then I threw the bright colored florals on the other cabinets above the fridge and bar area.

The barstools are a new purchase. We found these at Rug and Home which is a little drive for us but we also found a great rug there that we had in the living room but I later moved to our girls room.
